Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic Care and Spinal Adjustments, (also known Spinal Manipulative Therapy), were first pioneered over a hundred years ago as a method of manually improving how the spine worked. The theory was that misaligned vertebrae placed pressure on spinal nerves, thereby affecting the many different functions in the body controlled by those nerves. By correcting the spinal misalignment, the nervous system could work properly again. Chiropractors also placed a strong emphasis on the philosophy of Prevention - if the body was working optimally, then we wouldn't get sick.
Over time Chiropractors became known as spinal experts and what we often describe as a cross between a Mechanic and a Neurologist. Chiropractors manipulate not just the spine, but other joints such as the shoulder, hip or knee, using a variety of adjusting techniques, soft tissue treatments. They also prescribe condition specific exercises, to assist in recovery and help prevent injury recurrence. Chiropractic has evolved to include 5 different Specialties in Canada that reflects the diversity of skills and training with Colleges in the fields of Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, Clinical Research, Radiology and Sports Sciences.
